CHARLES LEWIS HALL & GARY TOLLEFSON PLAZA
SKAGIT VALLEY COLLEGE
MT VERNON, WA
Replacing the old 1959 Lewis Hall, the three story academic, faculty, and student services building accommodates basic skills classes, student learning center, admissions, counseling services, English & literature department, and math department. Achieving LEED® Gold certification, it incorporates a 15,000 gallon cistern to hold stormwater for flushing toilets and rooftop irrigation, a 139-stall parking lot equipped with electric vehicle charging stations, an extensive green roof, and a upper level roof-top terrace with green roof components and large rain gardens. HBB also designed the College’s main central plaza in addition to two memorial gardens, the Fugate Garden and the Nowadnick Garden that showcase botanical specimen plants for use by the Horticulture program and transplanting of large specimen trees.
