Seafarer’s Memorial Park

Port of Anacortes, WA

Located south of Cap Sante Boat Haven along the waterfront of Anacortes, the former Scott Paper Mill clean-up project involved design and restoration of Seafarers’ Memorial Park following the soil clean-up process. The old Park building was salvaged and relocated to take advantage of views to Mt. Baker across Fidalgo Bay. The park includes small water craft access and an aggregate beach for aquatic wildlife habitat. The park includes an outdoor performance plaza, permeable unit paver parking area, open lawn for passive recreation, buffer vegetation screening adjacent property, a sea wall, and a public pier. Eel grass meadows were established in the near-shore area to support forage fish spawning. Interpretive signs were integrated that detail the history of site, wave modeling and construction of the wave attenuators, and underwater sea life of the near-shore habitat.
