Park(ing) Day 2014

On September 19, 2014, HBB staff transformed an on-street parking space outside our office into A Walk Through Western Washington. All 50 parklets around Seattle were judged as part of the Seattle Design Festival and HBB was pleased to receive the Greenest Park Award! Coordinated with other (PARK)ing Day events throughout Seattle and the Seattle Design Festival, we had visitors throughout the day walk through and enjoy our park. PARK(ing) Day is an event held once a year around the world that provides designers, artists, activists and community members the opportunity to remake a parking space. Seattle Department of Transportation is the sponsoring agency of the event in Seattle. The parklet was comprised of three rooms, each representing a planted zone found in Western Washington; Mountains, Lowlands, and Coastal. Plants commonly found in these zones filled each of the rooms and other elements you might find in each zone were used for seating. Working together, our team provided the ideas, coordination and quality needed to make the space a success.
