Denny Substation

SEATTLE CITY LIGHT

SEATTLE, WA

Located in the Cascade neighborhood of South Lake Union, the Denny Substation will distribute electricity throughout the South Lake Union area to meet the growing energy demands of redevelopment. HBB provided landscape architecture design for the 4 acre site incorporating site programming elements from public involvement, City of Seattle Green Factor requirements, and interdepartmental coordination. The off-leash dog area functions as a central component to the open space, with additional areas such as event plazas, group-use areas, lawn, and seating areas. HBB coordinated landscape plantings with the artist designed “Transforest” sculpture and with the building façade to tie the structural elements and the elevated walkway that surrounds the building envelope with the open spaces.
