Edmonds School District Operations & Maintenance Facility
Edmonds School District
Lynnwood, WA
HBB provided landscape architectural services for the 20-acre Edmonds School District Operations and Maintenance Facility located in Lynnwood, Washington. The project includes a new operation and maintenance building along with overnight parking for school buses. Sandwiched between a Sound Transit light rail station, major freeway, light industrial manufacturing and residential housing, careful consideration was given to soften the overall heft of the site with landscaping. Existing mature trees were integrated into the design, and extensive buffer plantings at three sides of the site provide a new generation of evergreen and deciduous trees for future screening. Natural stormwater conveyance systems were coordinated in the landscape to reduce the dispersal of sediment and vehicular pollution from parking areas. The public side of the new operation and maintenance facility offices were given a prominent entrance from the staff parking area, which is flanked by landscape berms and trees leading to the front doors. Low maintenance plantings were selected to provide year-round interest with a variety of seasonal textures and colors. HBB’s scope of work included site planning and construction documents for planting and irrigation design, as well as specifications, cost estimating and construction services.
