Yakima Valley College; Palmer Martin Replacement Project

Yakima Valley College

Yakima, WA

HBB provided landscape architecture services for the new Palmer Martin Hall Replacement and Palmer Hall Removal projects. Design services included master planning and design development. The concept design for the Palmer Hall Removal project included a new outdoor common space to replace the old Palmer Hall building. The common space consists of a series of radiating pathways lined with shade trees, ornamental shrubs, groundcovers and benches to provide students, faculty and visitors a place to gather. The center of the common space includes a pergola structure to support outdoor performances and gatherings. The Palmer Martin Hall Replacement project includes a new entry plaza for the arts and communications building. Working closely with the building architect and project artist, HBB developed an entry plaza consisting of radiating concrete patterns with in-ground LED lights. The plaza reflects and enhances upon the patterns and symbolism contained within the building entry and interior artwork. HBB prepared presentation graphics, as well as construction documents, cost estimates and specifications. In addition, HBB provided planting, irrigation, paving, site furnishing, and site layout design to complete the project. This project was designed to LEED® Silver certifications.
