Ancich Park & Netshed
City of Gig Harbor
Gig Harbor, WA
Ancich Park is a new waterfront park near downtown Gig Harbor with a small open space, historic netshed and boat house for storing hand-carry boats. Future plans also include expansion of the pier to support commercial fishing and a separate dock for pedestrian and hand-carry boating access. In order to preserve views across the site to Gig Harbor Bay, the design of the boat storage facility was integrated into the adjacent slope, visible only from the water and the public plaza below. A portion of the structures’ roof was turned into a public amenity by the addition of a plaza overlook, green roof planting, interpretive signs, and site furnishings. Design for the site also includes preserving two existing driveways for access to existing piers, providing ADA access across the steeply sloped site, installing a new bulkhead, rebuilding a historic pier and netshed, and providing a native vegetated buffer at the shoreline.
