As part of the process to transform this site, once a large church, into a community park, Pierce County Parks and Recreation brought on HBB to update the park master plan and develop phased construction plans. The process began with several stakeholder workshops with park and recreation staff, maintenance staff, and representatives from the community. Working to design to a very specific construction budget, HBB explored several options designed to maximize recreation opportunities for a variety of users. The updated master plan includes a large amphitheater, accessible loop trails throughout the site and integrated around an existing wetland area. An inclusive, nature-based play area expands on and complements prior improvements at the park. Other elements included in the master plan were a great lawn, an off-leash area, and plaza space. Following the master planning process, HBB developed phase 1 construction documents for the great lawn, a loop trail, parking improvements, and the forested off-leash area.
