Federal Way Non-Motorized Corridor

City of Federal Way

Federal Way, WA

This non-motorized trail project provides a 1.25-mile multi-use paved path that stretches between Federal Way High School to South 288th. The trail is one of the highest priority projects for the City of Federal Way and the first of several planned trail projects along this corridor. The trail passes through a variety of environments and includes residential areas, local schools, parks, businesses, and forested areas. Design principles were applied to enhance the safety of the proposed trail corridor through the use of open sight lines, pedestrian scale lighting, and low vegetation. The trail includes an on-street segment and a segment within an off-street separated corridor. Three resting areas are provided that will include trail wayfinding signs, benches, and enhanced planting. Several public outreach meetings were organized to provide opportunities for public feedback, including stakeholder groups and the general public. HBB is providing public outreach support, presentation graphics and construction documents for landscape and urban design improvements.
