North Burlington Roundabout

Burlington, Washington

This roundabout intersection and sidewalks improve safety and mobility for all users along one mile corridor north of Burlington. Streetscape design elements include street trees, biofiltration swales, rain gardens, street lights with hanging baskets and banners, and water-conserving irrigation system. A large silo structure and landscape improvements that mimicking row farming illustrate the area’s agricultural past. Low impact development techniques were included in streetscape design for stormwater swales, to filter water runoff, and allow infiltration through rain gardens. Plant materials were selected for drought tolerance, sustainability, and year-round interest resembling commonly seen agricultural plants and meeting WSDOT height and sight distance requirements.
