S440 South 200th Link Extension

Sound Transit

SeaTac, WA

HBB was part of the design/build team selected by Sound Transit to construct the S440 South 200th Link Extension to extend light rail service between the existing Seattle-Tacoma International Airport station and the new Angle Lake station located at South 200th Street. HBB provided urban design, planting, and irrigation design services for landscape enhancements along 1.6 miles of at grade street improvements, several enhanced landscape open spaces, and the elevated station platform located at South 200th Street. The station design includes covered waiting areas, an at-grade pedestrian plaza, and a transfer area for local and rapid ride bus connections. New pedestrian and bicycle pathways along South 200th Street connect International Boulevard with the trailhead of Des Moines Creek Trail. Street improvements to accommodate multi-modal traffic circulation, bicycle and pedestrian access, secured bicycle storage, landscaping and public art were all important elements of the project. Irrigation design included a rainwater cistern system to reduce domestic water use for the project. The project was awarded LEED Gold certification.
